About Girls Gotta Run:
The Girls Gotta Run Foundation (GGRF) is a volunteer organization funded in 2006 to raise funds to provide support for impoverished Ethiopian girls who are training to be runners. Training to be athletes allows them to stay in school, avoid early marriage, and gain personal independence. Besides athletic shoes, GGRF provides money for training clothes, extra food ("calorie money"), coach subsidies, and other training-related expenses.
By supporting these aspiring athletes, Girls Gotta Run provides Ethiopian girls the chance to improve not only their lives but also their families and communities.

1420 Columbia Road, NW
Washington, DC 20009
This panel discussion is part of a five-part narrative series featuring literary readings, performances, exhibitions and facilitated discussions. Women Artists/Women Healing is produced and hosted by CentroNia and funded in part by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities and the Readings & Workshops Program of Poets & Writers, Inc.
Gathering women artists, healers, veterans, and survivors from across cultures and disciplines, the series showcases the resiliency and expression of the human spirit, seen through the lens of female artists and speakers.
Interact with the artists, performers and panelists to learn how lives are transformed through artistic, creative and personal expressions. Listen to voices of survival, be it the ravages of war and strife, or crime, poverty, and oppression and find out how faith, healing and empathy are entry points for promoting justice and healing from within and beyond one's own personal experience.
In celebration of Women's History Month, each program begins at 6 pm with a light reception, art exhibit and performance, followed by a facilitated panel discussion at 6:45 pm. Audience interaction is encouraged.

Special Note: Authentic Art Consulting and The ThickArt Collaborative have joined Design Scheme Interiors, LLC, Unity Health Care, Inc., The Ward 7 Arts Collaborative, and the Decorators' Alliance of North America (DANA) to help brighten the lives of residents East of the River in Washington, DC through Unity Health Care's East of the River Key Corner Project.
AAC and TAC will be requesting artists and guests to bring to the reception donated books and art supplies for children ages 2-10 to contribute to a new children's reading corner and patient waiting room at Unity's East of the River Health Center. Women Helping Women: Stitch by Stitch
Afghan Womens Collaboration with the
Womens Caucus for Art Philadelphia Chapter
Exhibition: May 2, 2008-May 31, 2008
City County Building, Wilmington, DE
The WCA-Philadelphia has partnered with Rubia to organize the collaborative project, entitled: Women Helping Women: Stitch by Stitch. The project involved the creation of a quilt, which showcases the work of women from Darrai Noor, Afghanistan and over 25 American women artists from the Womens Caucus for Art and Rubia. These large embroidered tapestries are fine examples of the culture of embroidery in Central Asia and its association with women, in particular.
The United States artists observed the embroidered motifs found in Rubias handwork, which include the poppy, the peacock, and the swirling sun as found on the Rubia Website (http://www.rubiahandwork.org). Each square piece is an interpretation of a Rubia embroidery. The Womens Caucus for Art Philadelphia chapter assembled the larger tapestry combining embroidery from Afghan women and each artists 10 x 10 inch piece to create an impressive and intricate tapestry.
The show will debut at the Redding Gallery in the City County Building in Wilmington, DE. The show will then travel to the Grace Episcopal Church in Merchantville, NJ. Shows across the nation are pending approval as many artists wish to see the quilt exhibited their home towns. The quilted piece will be showcased at the DC Chapters Networking Day at the Arts Club of Washington, DC on April 5.
Rubia is a project of Social Environmental Entrepeneurs (SEE), a registered 501(c) [3], which provides non-profit status. Rubia serves women in Afghanistan, offering education, skills training and income opportunities through the promotion of their traditional handwork. Rubia is committed to building sustainable business in a fragile environment, empowering women while respecting traditional ways, reviving and preserving traditional crafts.
Women Helping Women: Stitch by Stitch opens with Environmental Distress: Work by the Womens Caucus for Art, Philadelphia Chapter May 2, 2008 at the Redding Gallery, City County Building, Wilmington, DE. Live Performances by Sigma Alpha Iota Womens Music Fraternity, Temple University Chapter, FREE.
